Winka Dubbeldam
Architect of the MCF Academy
Winka Dubbeldam is the principal of Archi-Tectonics, NYC, founded in 1994, and Practice Professor and the Director of the Post-Professional Program at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She has also taught at Columbia University and Harvard School of Architecture. The work of Archi-Tectonics ranges from residential to commercial, from real to virtual and is realized in urban designs, architectures, and installations.
Built work includes several large loft renovations in Manhattan, the Aida Salon, the 2500 sf GT residence, the 80,000 sf Greenwich building all in NYC, and the 15-story American Loft tower in Philadelphia. Current projects under construction are: the 9-story residential Vestry building, the LRH mixed-use building in NYC, the 10,000sf Duane Spa, a 3000 sf residence in Holland, and a townhouse in Chelsea, NYC, for a fashion designer. New projects include a 5000 sf residence in Long Island, NY, the 300,000sf GHM hotel/residences tower in the center of Philadelphia, a 18 story tower Midtown Manhattan, and 500,000sf of “pavilions in the park” in the city center of Brussels, Belgium.
Publications include the two Monographs, “Winka Dubbeldam, Architect” [010 Publishers, Rotterdam, 1996], and AT-INdex [Princeton Press, NYC, 2007], and the work has been published in a large number of International Periodicals. Solo exhibitions include installations in Form Zero Gallery in Los Angeles (1994), the Kunsthal in Rotterdam (1996), ‘From HardWare to SoftForm’ in the Frederieke Taylor Gallery [Chelsea, NY, 2002] and the Art & Idea Gallery in Mexico City (2004).
Archi-Tectonics was a participant in the MOMA exhibits, "TheUnprivate House" (1999) and the ‘Young Architects’ (2001), and participated in the Max Protetch Exhibit for proposals for the WTC (2001), which was also featured at the Venice Biennale [2002] . Archi-tectonics also participated in the Venice Biennale Arsenale exhibit in 2004. Dubbeldam is the curator of the PAN [Progressive Architecture Network] exhibit in the Taylor Gallery Oct-Nov 2006, which is currently traveling Europe. Winka received the “Emerging Voice” award [2001], was the award winner in the IIDA / MetropolisSmart Environments Award [2006], and Archi-Tectonics recently won the Staten Island Proposal for a Green residential Neighborhood and Farmers market.
