Sponsor a Child
Sign up to sponsor a student in the inaugural year of the MCF Academy! $300 supports a child's education and nutrition for one year.
In Fall 2010, MCF will open a world-class tuition-free boarding school in post-war Liberia for abandoned children and orphans. These children come from impoverished communities that could never afford to send them to school -- however, your $300 provides them with a scholarship to cover their academic needs at the MCF Academy. This includes the fees for a uniform, school supplies, books, medical needs, and lunch.
The MCF Academy will board 200 students, starting with grades kindergarten through third grade, adding a new grade each year, ultimately expanding the school to grade 9. You can start a lasting relationship with a student who will be among the first to graduate from the MCF Academy, the first school of its kind in this post-war African nation. Envisioned by Liberian refugee MacDella Cooper, designed by world famous architect Winka Dubbeldam, and built by the incredible GBS-Liberia team, the MCF Academy is the result of a true 'dream team' and you can be part of it.
You can chose to be either a visible sponsor or a blind sponsor. A visible sponsor is known to the child as his or her "playmom" or "playdad," receives his or her child's grades, photographs, and letters at least twice a year, and he or she can also send letters and care packages to the child. Blind sponsors remain anonymous; you choose your level of involvement.
Every child has a story yet to be told. Just imagine the story that the child you are matched up with may live to tell. Sponsoring a child can be of value to your life, too, as this recent New York Times column illustrates.
